New Year Resolution
Time is an ocean. It is vast. It is beautiful. It is threatening. It is mesmerizing. It is probably the only sea which does not cause seasickness. We all sail through this ocean. Well, actually in reality we don't travel in time, but time is the one passing through us on its own. But lets not be a cynic and just enjoy this metaphor (Self depreciate our own work so that others can see that as introspection ,Free advice keta kelunga kekati ponga).
Okay, sorry for getting deviated there, I always do this. There was this one time when I was just taking my phone to see a 30 second reel and spend more than a hour on my phone, and spent the next half hour feeling guilty for wasting time.
Pretty sure that many may think that I got sidetracked, again but no. The flow of time is something that is magical, and that is why we don't try to understand it. So I thought lets view it in a scientific approach, so that at the least I will do my best to understand it a bit.
Time is awesome, pretty sure that I covered that, but its only so great as much as we make use of it. The feeling of satisfaction you get when the thing for which you were preparing for came true and you were ready it to tackle it, is something that is so good. I think all those great intellects think so much not solely because they want to achieve something, they enjoy the process of that, and the by product is the achievement. That is why they don't really care about the fame, money or anything else because what they yearned for is already delivered before the result itself. I was fortuned enough to gain a bit of satisfaction. I completed my work in my free time, and that was not asked the next day, but when it was the submission day I actually had a lot of other work, and my preparedness saved me that day. And I actually felt a euphoria. So did I change that day itself and did all my work in a structured manner that made my whole life easy? No. I stopped watching phone for a few days and did my work, but was not able to totally avoid the phone. One day I was taking my phone as I want to see something related to my studies and spent the whole evening in phone.
The reason for not being able to maintain the resolutions, especially new year resolutions are because we are making a sudden change without giving our mind and body time to adapt to it, which causes us to move towards our comfortable zone. If we can change ourselves so easily then, the whole situation would not be so bad in the first place. Even though many may not accept it, I personally think that changing our selves is something that is not easy to anyone. One changes only when one is hurt so deep that he feels like he has reached rock bottom. Just then the life will surprise him, showing that it was not the rock bottom as a new situation occurs which utterly breaks him. This broken person changes because he is broken, because he is experienced, because he is enlightened. It may sound bad or like extrapolated and blown big, but I think this is the way. All other times we just wish that we would change. We would not change unless something impacts us that makes us change, so that we would not get hurt all over again, it is a simple defence mechanism that our mind develops.
Am I saying get hurt to develop a defence mechanism against it, no, all I am saying is sudden changes are something that cannot be synthesised. That is why most of the new year resolutions fail.
Let me say my thought now. If we take the process of change that we want to make and time as a function, I am saying that the derivative of this function should be negative and gradual. We should not take a nose dive and expect it to work.
My new year resolution, no no, my resolution is spending more time on something that gives me a feeling of accomplishment.
Maybe instead of new year resolution we can all take one year resolution, take a resolution and achieve it throughout the year in a steady consistent slow process.
