AGI: Threat or Treat?

#AI#Technology#Opinion

Open AI is pushing the boundaries of innovation and technology by improving their models day by day. As all tech companies struggle to introduce a new feature / enhancement in their product, Open AI introduces enhanced models that outperforms their previous ones.

As they keep on pushing these boundaries of AI and how much easier the work can be done by humans once they achieve their goal, all tech enthusiast gets divided day by day. The deciding factor is that whether they think AI will improve their life, or whether its gonna be the reason of their downfall. I am pretty sure "AI" is the most popular buzz word of the past few years. And one of the probable cause is Open AI. They are the ones who showed the potential of AI. They brought the product in futuristic Sci-Fi novel into our present.

Now the question arises, "Should we fear the advancement in the field of AI?". Well each may have a answer that they have arrived at by culmination of their experience with AI. And as someone who at first did not know its existence and later understood the fundamentals of it, I would like to share my view of this. Now we have to first clear few things, sharing the worst outcomes of future on social media does not directly affect the progression of the technology. All it does is make people difficult to understand the technology, and people fear of what they can't understand.

Every technology that was ever invented was first fearful, until nature does what it have always done, "Adapt to it". Whenever there is a change, due to natural occurrence or manmade one, nature finds its way. And even if some may not identify as one, humans are part of nature. And adaptability is a skill that has been ingrained in our genes. Natural Selection is the law of nature, one where only those who adapt can survive. Thus the situation may vary, but the reaction is the same. It is important to become blue betels to avoid the eAIgle.

Only those who are transforming at the phase that the whole playing field is transforming can survive, and for those who are laidback and are comfortable have to decide whether they are gonna improve themselves are gonna move to different fields. But for those who wish to be most relevant, those who wish to climb the giant bean stalk, have to keep in mind that learning is a ocean without a bottom. The aim should not be to reach that bottom, but enjoy the journey towards it. And that can be done only by learning and unlearning what you think you know and everything that you don't.

In the end, AI is wave that can't be stopped, getting smashed by it is not the only outcome. Those who knows swimming may survive, but those who knows to surf can rise to the top.
